Founder communities in the Middle East and Africa: 11 compared (2026)
Founder communities in the Middle East and Africa compared: 11 groups from Dubai, Riyadh and Tel Aviv to Nairobi, Lagos and Cape Town, with price and entry rule.
Key takeaways
- Several are free to join: TechAviv's founders club is free with a member's recommendation, Consonance Club's Fellow membership in Lagos is free with approval, and Startup Grind Amman's listed events are free (checked 28 Oct 2026).
- Founder Connects runs a vetted WhatsApp group for tech founders across the Middle East and North Africa, and its Dubai Pitch Night tickets run from AED 147 early to AED 187 on the day.
- Hubs pair desks with community: iHUB in Nairobi has a day pass at KES 2,000 excluding VAT, and Norrsken House Kigali reviews membership applications every week.
- Some groups gate by stage or background: TechAviv asks for at least $1M in funding or revenue, and Startup for Startup is limited to people with tech experience.
- African tech startups raised US$4.1B in 2025, up 25% on 2024, according to Partech's Africa Tech VC Report.
The right founder community in the Middle East or Africa is usually tied to one city: a vetted chat and pitch night in Dubai, a hub in Nairobi or Kigali, a chapter meetup in Riyadh or Amman. Below are 11 communities across 10 countries, each checked on its own pages on 28 October 2026, with what each costs and how to get in.
A note before you read on: this guide is published by Remote Builders, our own free community for founders who build companies remotely, which you can join online from anywhere in the region. It isn't in the table, because the table is for groups based in the Middle East and Africa. We've left out any number we couldn't find on a community's own page.
How to choose a founder community in the Middle East and Africa
Vetted founder groups
Some groups screen every member. Founder Connects reviews each applicant's LinkedIn profile and startup details before adding them to its WhatsApp group, and says its network has 5,000+ founders. TechAviv's founders club in Israel is free, but founders need at least $1M in funding or revenue and a recommendation from a member. Startup for Startup in Tel Aviv is limited to people with tech experience, and its site is in Hebrew.
Chapter meetups
- Riyadh. 24six9 runs a not-for-profit founder community for deep tech and mission-driven founders, with pitch roasts, workshops and networking.
- Amman. Startup Grind Amman holds free events, and its Founders Day has limited seats with selected attendees contacted directly.
- Cape Town. Founders Running Club meets for a 5km social run, walkers welcome, followed by coffee and networking.
- Lagos. Consonance Club, a non-profit, runs Consonance Connect evening meetups, hackathons and pitch competitions, with meetup places subject to host approval.
Hubs and national programmes
iHUB in Nairobi is part of the Co-Creation Hub, with a day pass at KES 2,000 and a dedicated desk at KES 28,000 a month, both excluding VAT. Norrsken House Kigali is a 12,000 sqm work campus that says it has 1,400+ members, and it reviews applications weekly. Technopark Morocco runs six sites across Casablanca, Rabat, Tangier, Agadir and Essaouira, with free conferences and workshops through the year. StartUp Bahrain is the country's startup community, powered by Tamkeen, and runs perks that each have their own eligibility rules.

Communities we checked and left out
We left out groups whose newest dated activity was before May 2026, accelerators whose community is open only to their cohorts, sites that blocked us or didn't load, and pages that were only a sign-up form. We didn't find a group in Egypt, Ghana, Qatar or Türkiye that passed every check. If you run an active founder community in the region, tell us and we'll check it.
The region's startups in numbers
Partech's Africa Tech VC Report says African tech startups raised US$4.1B in 2025, up 25% on 2024, and that Kenya led the continent with US$1.04B. In the Middle East and North Africa, Wamda reported that startups raised $1.7 billion across 242 rounds in the first half of 2026, with UAE startups taking $1.2 billion of it across 83 deals. Capital is concentrated in a few cities, which is where most of these communities meet.
How to get value in your first month
- Apply early to vetted groups. Founder Connects and TechAviv review members, and Norrsken House Kigali reviews applications weekly.
- Go to the same meetup three times. By the third, people know what you're building.
- Bring one specific ask. "I need an intro to a fintech founder who has launched in Saudi Arabia" gets you somewhere.
- Check the language. Startup for Startup's content is in Hebrew and Technopark's site is in French.
- Add an online group for between events. Our comparison of communities for remote founders covers the online options.
Common mistakes
- Treating the region as one market. A Dubai group won't help much with a Lagos launch. Join where your customers are.
- Ignoring the entry rules. TechAviv needs a member's recommendation, and StartUp Bahrain's perks each have their own eligibility criteria.
- Paying for a desk you won't use. Hubs suit founders who'll be there most weeks. A day pass is a cheaper way to try one.
- Waiting for the perfect group. If nothing fits your city, start one. Our guide to starting a founder meetup covers the first three events.
