Founder communities in Australia: 12 compared by city (2026)
Founder communities in Australia compared: 12 groups in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide, with price, entry rule and a recent or upcoming event.
Key takeaways
- Free options exist in most cities: Morning Startup in Perth runs a free fortnightly breakfast, Aussie Founders Club's Slack is free to join, and Launch Camp's Sydney meetups and chat are free (checked 28 Oct 2026).
- Paid options range from event tickets, such as StartupHaus Melbourne at A$40 to A$60, to memberships such as Fishburners' Founders Passport from $89 a month (currency not named).
- Startmate's Summer '27 accelerator applications close on 1 November, and it says it invests A$120,000 at a A$1.5m post-money valuation for companies that haven't raised.
- Founder Institute's Australia cohort charges a A$799 entrance fee plus a 2.5% equity pledge, with a Summer 2027 intake open.
- We only list a group if one of its pages showed an event, intake or live sign-up dated May 2026 or later, so several known names were left out.
The right founder community in Australia is the one in your city that meets often enough for people to know your business, at a stage close to yours. Australia's startup scene is spread across five capitals, so most founders join one local group and one national or online one. Below is a table of 12 communities across Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide, each checked on its own page on 28 October 2026, with what each costs and how to get in.
A note before you read on: this guide is published by Remote Builders, and one row is ours. We've described it with the same kind of facts as everyone else, and we've left out any number we couldn't find on a community's own page today.
How to choose a founder community in Australia
Start with your city, then add one national group
Most of the groups in the table meet in one city. Fishburners and Launch Camp are in Sydney, StartupHaus and Aussie Founders Club in Melbourne, Morning Startup and Spacecubed in Perth, and Stone & Chalk's startup hub in Adelaide. National options sit on top of that: Startmate is remote-first with in-person weeks in Melbourne, Founder Institute runs an Australia cohort that you can also take online, and Aussie Founders Club's Slack and newsletter work from anywhere.
Pick a format that fits your stage
- Breakfasts and meetups. Free or cheap, and good before you have revenue. Morning Startup's fortnightly breakfast includes three-minute pitches with audience feedback.
- Ticketed founder nights. StartupHaus Melbourne runs after-work panels and pitches at A$40 to A$60, and Five V Capital's SaaS Summit runs half-day editions for SaaS founders and leaders, with registration approved by the host.
- Hubs and memberships. Fishburners, Spacecubed and Stone & Chalk combine desks with events, mentors or programmes. They suit you once you want a place to work alongside other founders.
- Accelerators. Startmate and Founder Institute have fixed intakes, application deadlines and investment or equity terms. Read those terms before you apply.
Check what you're paying for
Prices here are mostly per event or per desk, not per community. Fishburners' Founders Passport starts from $89 a month (currency not named), or $54.92 a month billed annually. Spacecubed's hot desks start from $50 a day (currency not named). StartupHaus tickets run A$40 to A$60. Aussie Founders Club's Slack is free, with some events free and others ticketed.

Notes by city
- Sydney. Fishburners says it's a community of tech startups from first idea to Series A, with 35+ pro bono mentors and monthly founder-to-founder meetups. It held its first Brisbane Pitch Night on 6 October 2026. Launch Camp is a newer co-founder matching community starting in Sydney. Our Sydney guide compares 14 founder communities in the city.
- Melbourne. Aussie Founders Club's latest newsletter was dated 26 October 2026, and its first Sydney event is on 29 October 2026. StartupHaus Melbourne's next night is on 1 December 2026 in Docklands. SaaS Summit's Sydney edition in May 2026 had 250 attendees, it says. Our Melbourne guide compares 12 founder communities in the city.
- Brisbane. The Community Collective runs brunches for community builders, founders and operators, with one on 31 October 2026 in Newstead. SaaS Summit held a Brisbane edition on 7 October 2026.
- Perth. Morning Startup's Meetup group shows 7,674 members and 466 past events. Spacecubed runs coworking hubs in the Perth CBD and invests through its own venture funds.
- Adelaide. Stone & Chalk's startup hub is at Lot Fourteen, and its residents get free access to the Sydney and Melbourne hubs.
Communities we checked and left out
We left out groups whose pages showed nothing dated in 2026, sites that no longer load, and a Brisbane meetup whose only recent event had no year on its page. If you run an Australian founder community and it's active, tell us and we'll check it.
The Australian startup scene in numbers
The Tech Council of Australia's Tech Jobs Report from August 2026 puts Australia's tech workforce at about 977,000 people by November 2025: 424,000 in direct tech roles and 553,000 in technical roles inside other industries. State agencies back founders too. LaunchVic, Victoria's startup agency, reports 13,503 entrepreneurs upskilled and 1,958 startups supported. That spread is why every capital has its own scene, and why the right group depends on where you are.
How to get value in your first month
- Go to the same group three times. The first visit is introductions. By the third, people know what you're building.
- Pitch early. Morning Startup's three-minute pitch slots and StartupHaus's founder pitches are a cheap way to test your story.
- Bring one ask. "I need an intro to a SaaS founder who has sold into councils" gets you somewhere. "Keen to connect" doesn't.
- Watch the deadlines. Startmate closes Summer '27 applications on 1 November, and Founder Institute's next cohort starts in February 2027.
- Add an online group for between events. Our comparison of communities for remote founders covers the online options.
Common mistakes
- Joining for the brand name. A small group that meets every fortnight near you beats a big name you see twice a year.
- Signing accelerator terms without reading them. Equity, fees and refund rules differ, so compare them line by line.
- Only going to pitch nights. Investors are at some events, but other founders are where most of the help comes from.
- Waiting for the perfect group. If nothing fits your city, start one. Our guide to starting a founder meetup covers the first three events.
