The right founder community in Melbourne is the one you'll go back to: a Saturday parkrun, a walk round Carlton Gardens, a pitch night in the CBD or a co-working day with other AI founders. Below are 12 communities, each checked on its own pages on 28 October 2026, with what each costs, how to get in and when it next meets.
A note before you read on: this guide is published by Remote Builders, our own free community for founders who build companies remotely, which you can join online from Melbourne. It isn't in the table, because it doesn't meet in Melbourne. We've left out any number we couldn't find on a community's own page.

Communities we checked and left out
We left out groups with no event since April 2026 (including Indie Hackers Melbourne, whose last event was in March 2026), sites curl couldn't read, groups for a wider audience than founders, a venue, one-off events, a group that meets online, a university network limited to its own community, and a climate tech accelerator whose programmes run online. We didn't find an ecommerce, indie hacker or hardware founder group in Melbourne that met that bar; if you run one, tell us and we'll check it.
Melbourne's founders in numbers
The Victorian Government said on 1 July 2026, when it launched Innovation Victoria to bring LaunchVic and Breakthrough Victoria together, that Victoria is home to more than 4,400 startups. LaunchVic said Victorian startups raised $2.2 billion (currency not named) in 2025, and Startup Genome's Global Startup Ecosystem Report 2025 kept Melbourne at 32nd globally, with total VC funding up 14%.
How to get value in your first month
- Pick one weekly thing and one monthly thing. A Saturday parkrun, plus a monthly pitch night or walk.
- Go to the same one three times. By the third, people know what you're building.
- Bring one specific ask. "I need an intro to a founder who has sold to Victorian councils" gets you somewhere.
- Try a free day. MLAI's co-working days and Stone & Chalk's Founders Unfiltered cost nothing.
- Add a broader group. Our Australia guide covers other cities, our Sydney guide compares 14 groups there, and our comparison of communities for remote founders covers the online options.
Common mistakes
- Only going to pitch nights. Most of the help comes from other founders, not investors.
- Staying in the CBD. Cremorne, Carlton, Richmond and Lilydale all host something on this list.
- Saying yes to everything. Pick two or three and go often.
- Waiting for the perfect group. If nothing fits your niche, start one. Our guide to starting a founder meetup covers the first three events.
