Founder communities in San Francisco and the Bay Area: 17 compared (2026)
Founder communities in San Francisco and the Bay Area compared: 17 run clubs, meetups, residencies and founder hubs, with price, entry rule and next event.
Key takeaways
- Several San Francisco founder groups are free or don't publish a price: Founders Running Club SF runs every Saturday, Hustle Fund's Batter Up pitch night is free to attend, and SF Hardware Meetup meets monthly (checked 28 Oct 2026).
- South Park Commons runs a six-month residency for founders still deciding what to build, with no cost or equity taken, and expects members to come in during the week.
- Founder spaces that publish prices include Frontier Tower at $190 a month, Hacker Dojo's standard membership in Santa Clara at $150 a month and Mox's day pass at $70 (currency not named on each page).
- Some groups gate entry: Sisters Female Founders and South Park Commons need approval, and Founders, Inc.'s campus is generally not open through paid membership.
- Joint Venture Silicon Valley's 2026 Index says the region drew $92 billion in venture capital in 2025, and AI firms took 83% of it.
The right founder community in San Francisco depends on what you need this month: a Saturday run, a pitch night, a hardware meetup or a residency where you sit beside other founders every day. The Bay Area has more founder events than anyone can attend, so pick two or three and go often. Below are 17 communities across San Francisco and Silicon Valley, each checked on its own pages on 28 October 2026, with what each costs, how to get in and when it next meets.
A note before you read on: this guide is published by Remote Builders, our own free community for founders who build companies remotely, which you can join online from anywhere. It isn't in the table, because it doesn't meet in the Bay Area. We've left out any number we couldn't find on a community's own page, and where a page shows a price without naming the currency, we say so.
How to choose a founder community in San Francisco
Runs, hikes and meetups
These are the easiest way in, and most don't publish a price.
- Founders Running Club SF runs every Saturday from the William McKinley Monument, 5 or 10 km at conversational pace, then coffee. The club launched in San Francisco in July 2022.
- Sisters Female Founders holds monthly hikes in a different part of the city and monthly breakfasts for women founders. It's kept small, and each event needs host approval.
- SF Hardware Meetup is a volunteer-run monthly meetup with short talks and a two-minute open mic, plus dinners that are usually $50 a person (currency not named).
- ClimateLink San Francisco holds a monthly evening talk at the 9Zero hub. The next one, on irrigation and climate resilience, is on Tuesday 17 November.
Pitch nights and founder events
Hustle Fund's Batter Up is a free pitch night where up to six founders pitch for 2.5 minutes each; the next San Francisco edition is on 2 December. Founders Bay runs monthly AI breakfasts with VCs, dinners and happy hours, with a free tier and a $49 a month membership (currency not named). Bay Area Founders Club sends a weekly guide to Bay Area startup and AI events and holds AI pitch nights; it says it has over 100,000 members.
Residencies and campuses
- South Park Commons, SoMa: a six-month residency with no cost or equity taken, for founders and technologists before they commit to an idea. It says it has roughly 175 active members.
- Founders, Inc., Fort Mason: a 42,000 sq ft campus with desks for 80 founders and weekly ship-its, demo days and founder talks. It backs selected founders with $150k (currency not named), and anyone curious can come to the weekly Open Campus event.

Communities we checked and left out
We left out sites that need JavaScript to show their details or blocked us, programmes open only to their cohorts, and groups with no San Francisco event dated May 2026 or later. We didn't find a Black or Latino founder group in San Francisco that met that bar; if you run one, tell us and we'll check it.
The Bay Area's founders in numbers
Joint Venture Silicon Valley's 2026 Silicon Valley Index, released on 24 February 2026, says the region drew $92 billion in venture capital in 2025. AI firms captured $80 billion of it, or 83%, and it counted 312 unicorns. The Office of the Governor of California said on 24 August 2026 that companies in the state had raised $366 billion in venture capital so far in 2026.
It's also an expensive place to live: Joint Venture's 2026 Silicon Valley Poll found 90% of residents call housing and the cost of living serious problems.
How to get value in your first month
- Pick one weekly thing and one monthly thing. A Saturday run, plus a pitch night, breakfast or meetup each month.
- Go to the same one three times. By the third, people know what you're building.
- Bring one specific ask. "I need an intro to a hardware founder who has done a first production run" gets you somewhere.
- Visiting? Plan around passes. Mox's week pass, a SHACK15 day pass or Founders, Inc.'s Open Campus let you meet founders without a lease.
- Add a broader group. Our US and Canada guide covers other cities, and our comparison of communities for remote founders covers the online options.
Common mistakes
- Saying yes to everything. There's more on than you can attend. Pick two or three and go often.
- Only going to pitch nights. Most of the help comes from other founders, not investors.
- Missing the entry rules. Residencies and some clubs need an application. Check before you plan a trip around one.
- Waiting for the perfect group. If nothing fits your niche, start one. Our guide to starting a founder meetup covers the first three events.
