Indie Hackers alternatives for bootstrapped founders: 14 compared (2026)
Indie Hackers alternatives for bootstrapped founders: 14 forums, accountability groups, vetted circles and meetups compared on price, format and entry.
Key takeaways
- The right Indie Hackers alternative depends on what the forum isn't giving you. For another free, open place to post, try Hacker News (Show HN) or Product Hunt. For daily accountability, WIP. For vetted bootstrapped peers, MicroConf Connect or FounderLed. For people in the same room, a local indie hacker meetup such as Indie Hackers Lille.
- Indie Hackers itself is a public forum and feed that's free to join, with an optional Indie Hackers Plus at US$198 a year (checked 27 Oct 2026).
- Monthly memberships on this list run from $19 a month (Bootstrapped Makers Pro, currency not named) to US$49 a month or US$499 a year (MicroConf Connect, which says you pay only once you're accepted). FounderLed doesn't publish a price.
- Revenue and stage gates differ: Indie Masterminds is for indie hackers working towards $5K MRR, FounderLed runs a revenue-verified Slack, and MicroConf Connect's applications were paused until 17 November when we checked on 27 Oct 2026.
- Free in-person options exist: Indie Hackers Lille's monthly drinks meetups are free, and IndieBeers London and Indie Hackers & Bootstrappers Vienna meet monthly in a pub, with no price published.
The right Indie Hackers alternative is the one that fills the gap the forum leaves for you. Indie Hackers is a free, public forum and feed for founders building profitable online businesses, and it's great for reading and posting. What it can't give you is daily accountability, a vetted room of people at your revenue stage, or a table of indie hackers in your own city. Below are 14 alternatives sorted by that gap, each checked on its own page between 25 and 28 October 2026.
A note before you read on: this guide is published by Remote Builders, and one row is ours. We've described it with the same kind of facts as everyone else, and we've left out any number a community didn't publish.
What Indie Hackers gives you, and what it doesn't
Indie Hackers is open: anyone can join for free, read the feed and post. Its optional paid tier, Indie Hackers Plus, was US$198 a year on its own site on 27 October 2026. That openness is the point, and it's also the limit. Nobody checks whether you shipped this week, nobody filters the room by revenue, and you won't meet anyone in person through the forum itself.
So before you pick an alternative, decide which of these you're missing:
- Another free, open place to post and get feedback. You want reach, not a membership.
- Accountability. You want someone to notice when you go quiet.
- Vetted peers. You want a smaller room of bootstrapped founders at a stage close to yours, and you're happy to apply or pay.
- People in the same room. You want a monthly drink or a co-working day with other indie hackers nearby.
- Building with AI. You want classes and peers focused on AI products.

Which one fits, by what you're missing
You want another free, open place. Hacker News (Show HN) and Product Hunt are free, and both are about showing something people can try, with clear rules against asking for upvotes. Bootstrapped Makers has a free tier with a Telegram group, aimed at makers who have a live product and no paying customers yet. None of these replaces a forum you post in every week, but each puts your work in front of new readers.
You want accountability. WIP is built around one habit: a daily post about what you shipped, plus weekly video hangouts. It costs US$29 a month or US$199 a year. Indie Masterminds adds co-working and mastermind calls for indie hackers working towards $5K MRR, with paid passes from $99 for three months (currency not named) and a free tier by invitation.
You want vetted peers. MicroConf Connect is for bootstrapped SaaS founders and people working toward a SaaS. A person reviews a short application, you pay only once you're accepted, and there's a 30-day refund. When we checked on 27 October 2026 it said applications were paused until 17 November. FounderLed runs a revenue-verified Slack for bootstrapped SaaS founders by application, and doesn't publish its membership price.
You want people in the same room. Indie hacker meetups are run city by city. Indie Hackers Lille's monthly drinks are free, IndieBeers London meets monthly in a Shoreditch pub, and Indie Hackers & Bootstrappers Vienna holds a small monthly pub meetup with host approval. In Bali, Hackagu runs a weekly co-working day for indie makers.
You want to build with AI. Ramen Club offers two live classes a month and a monthly demo day for £25 a month or £170 lifetime. Lounge has a free tier and a weekly Zoom mastermind grouped by revenue band, with founder Pro from US$47 a month.
Where Remote Builders fits, and where it doesn't
Remote Builders is our own community. It's free and instant to join, and it's for founders building a business from wherever they live: builder dinners, city chapters, a member directory and a members' chat in the Bali Startup & Tech Telegram, with a podcast in the works.
It isn't the right fit if you want a public feed to post milestones in, the way Indie Hackers works, or daily accountability like WIP. It also doesn't check your revenue, so if you want a room filtered by MRR, MicroConf Connect or FounderLed will suit you better. Where it helps is meeting other remote founders, online and in person, without paying for it.
How to get value from whichever you pick
- Pick one gap to fill. Joining four communities at once usually means being quiet in all of them.
- Post your numbers early. Revenue, churn or launch results get better answers than general questions.
- Give before you ask. Answer two questions in your first week, then ask yours.
- Give it 30 days, then decide. Several paid groups here bill monthly, and MicroConf Connect has a 30-day refund, so a month is enough to know.
- Keep Indie Hackers too. It's free, so you can keep reading and posting there while one of the groups above covers what it doesn't.
