The right founder community in Tokyo is the one you'll go back to: a pitch social in Shibuya, a Tuesday lunch at Tokyo International Forum, a Saturday run from Harajuku or a free hub in Marunouchi. Below are 14 communities, each checked on its own pages, with what each costs, how to get in and when it next meets.
A note before you read on: this guide is published by Remote Builders, our own free community for founders who build companies remotely, which you can join online from Tokyo. It isn't in the table, because it doesn't meet in Tokyo. We've left out any number we couldn't find on a community's own page.

Communities we checked and left out
We left out groups that are gone or that we couldn't read, groups with no in-person Tokyo activity since May 2026 (including some that moved online and a startup loft that closed), groups whose pages don't say they're for founders, a pitch event startups can't attend as audience, a coworking offer, a very small group with two events and a page of corporate press releases. We didn't find an indie hacker, SaaS or bootstrapper group, or a web3 founder group, in Tokyo that met our checks; if you run one, tell us and we'll check it.
Tokyo's founders in numbers
Startup Genome's 2026 Tokyo page says SusHi Tech Tokyo 2026 recorded 750+ startups, 10,000 business meetings and 60,000 participants, and that Tokyo Innovation Base membership grew from 23,000 to 67,000+ since 2023, with events up from 480 to 1,400+. It puts the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's 2026 startup budget at $448M (currency not named), up from $325M in 2024, and says Japan expanded its startup visa nationwide in 2025, letting foreign entrepreneurs stay for up to two years.
How to get value in your first month
- Pick one weekly thing and one monthly thing. A Saturday run or a Tuesday lunch, plus HN Tokyo or a Growth Hub evening.
- Go to the same one three times. By the third, people know what you're building.
- Bring one specific ask. "I need an intro to a founder who has sold to Japanese enterprises" gets you somewhere.
- Start in English if you need to. Shibuya Startup Support, Founders Running Club Tokyo and Google for Startups Campus Tokyo run in English.
- Add a broader group. Our East Asia guide covers Osaka, Fukuoka, Seoul, Taipei and Hong Kong, and our comparison of communities for remote founders covers the online options.
Common mistakes
- Only going to big summits. The small formats, like a lunch with no pitches or a nomikai with no slides, are where you get real help.
- Saying yes to everything. Pick two or three and go often.
- Planning around an old date. Several of these groups post dates late, so check the listing the week before.
- Waiting for the perfect group. If nothing fits your niche, start one. Our guide to starting a founder meetup covers the first three events.
