The right founder community in Kuala Lumpur is the one you'll go back to: a weekly evening in Damansara, a Thursday Show & Tell for AI builders, a small Gen Z founders' afternoon or a summit week in November. Below are 12 communities, each checked on its own pages, with what each costs, how to get in and when it next meets.
A note before you read on: this guide is published by Remote Builders, our own free community for founders who build companies remotely, which you can join online from Kuala Lumpur. It isn't in the table, because it doesn't meet in Kuala Lumpur. We've left out any number we couldn't find on a community's own page.

Communities we checked and left out
We left out a group that now runs only online, groups for non-technical people or women in general rather than founders, groups with no event since April 2026, a site that blocked us, a paid programme, a residency that runs in Singapore, a webinar series, a referral sales network, a group with a single thin listing, and a peer group hosted by a coach. We didn't find a founder run club (beyond the AI Run Club), a SaaS, bootstrapper, halal economy or founder-only fintech group, or a Malay, Chinese or Indian Malaysian founders' group with dated activity since May 2026; if you run one, tell us and we'll check it.
Kuala Lumpur's founders in numbers
Startup Genome's 2026 Kuala Lumpur page values the ecosystem at $9 billion for H2 2023 to 2025, and says Malaysia's Budget 2026 startup-related allocations reach about $10.9 billion (currency not named for either). MDEC said on 6 May 2026 that it drove more than RM450 million in export opportunities at SusHi Tech Tokyo 2026.
How to get value in your first month
- Pick one weekly thing and one monthly thing. A Wednesday evening or a Thursday Show & Tell, plus a monthly meetup or salon.
- Go to the same one three times. By the third, people know what you're building.
- Bring one specific ask. "I need an intro to a founder who has sold to Malaysian banks" gets you somewhere.
- Use the November summit weeks. Cradle LIVE! and Startup School put many of these groups in one place.
- Add a broader group. Our Southeast Asia guide covers other cities, our Kuala Lumpur guide for remote founders covers visas, coworking and costs, and our comparison of communities for remote founders covers the online options.
Common mistakes
- Only going to big summits. The small formats, like a 25-seat afternoon or a 10-seat Show & Tell, are where you get real help.
- Saying yes to everything. Pick two or three and go often.
- Planning around an old date. Several of these groups post dates late, so check the listing the week before.
- Waiting for the perfect group. If nothing fits your niche, start one. Our guide to starting a founder meetup covers the first three events.
