The right founder community in Chicago is the one you'll go back to: a Saturday run along the lake, a coffee roundtable every other Thursday, a Wednesday morning pitch or a hub built around what you make. Below are 14 communities, each checked on its own pages, with what each costs, how to get in and when it next meets.
A note before you read on: this guide is published by Remote Builders, our own free community for founders who build companies remotely, which you can join online from Chicago. It isn't in the table, because it doesn't meet in Chicago. We've left out any number we couldn't find on a community's own page.

Notes on the table
- Upcoming events. Chicago Founders Club runs on 31 October, mHUB's speed networking is on 2 November, 1 Million Cups meets on 4 November, Techstars closes applications on 18 November, Startup Grind and The Hatchery meet on 19 November and Chicago Startup Events' dinner is on 3 December.
- Event dates from page code. Some dates in this guide come from the event data in Sweatpals', Luma's or Startup Grind's page code rather than the page text; each profile says which.
- Approval. Chicago Startup Events' dinner and LaFamilia's evenings need host approval, and The Hatchery, Techstars and mHUB's mPOWER take applications.
Communities we checked and left out
We left out groups that now meet online, a site that blocked us and one that was gone, programmes that feed a paid accelerator or come from an out-of-state promoter, a general mixer, groups with only one event so far, an investor-led climate showcase, and groups for engineers or professionals rather than founders. We didn't find a Black founders, climate, AI, SaaS or ecommerce founder group in Chicago that met our checks; if you run one, tell us and we'll check it.
Chicago's founders in numbers
Startup Genome's Chicago page puts the ecosystem's value at $65 billion for H2 2023 to 2025, and the value of its exits at $23 billion for 2021 to 2025 (currency not named for either). World Business Chicago's 2026 Chicago Venture Summit focuses on the Future of Health, bringing together founders, investors, healthcare systems and researchers.
How to get value in your first month
- Pick one weekly thing and one fortnightly thing. A Saturday run or a Wednesday 1 Million Cups, plus a Founder's Therapy roundtable.
- Go to the same one three times. By the third, people know what you're building.
- Bring one specific ask. "I need an intro to a founder who has sold into hospital systems" gets you somewhere.
- Use your sector's hub. mHUB, MATTER and The Hatchery each run events where the founders building what you build turn up.
- Add a broader group. Our US and Canada guide covers other cities, and our comparison of communities for remote founders covers the online options.
Common mistakes
- Only going to big conferences. The small formats, like a 12-seat dinner or a coffee roundtable, are where you get real help.
- Saying yes to everything. Pick two or three and go often.
- Planning around an old date. Several of these groups post dates late, so check the listing the week before.
- Waiting for the perfect group. If nothing fits your niche, start one. Our guide to starting a founder meetup covers the first three events.
