Founder retreats 2026: 10 checked, and how to tell which are worth it

Founder retreats 2026 compared: dates, price, size and vetting for 10 retreats and trips, checked on each organiser's page, plus coliving and a checklist.

Updated . By the Remote Builders team. Every figure links to its source.

Key takeaways

  • Dynamite Circle's retreats, including DCMEX in Mexico City on 6 to 9 April 2027, are open only to members and approved applicants, and membership needs at least US$100,000 a year in business revenue and costs US$697 a year (checked 26 Oct 2026).
  • MicroConf US 2027 runs 18 to 20 April 2027 at Hotel Van Zandt in Austin, with General Admission at US$1,229 and a stated size of around 250 people at most; anyone can buy a ticket.
  • MicroConf Europe 2027 runs 3 to 5 October 2027 in Dubrovnik, with early bird tickets at EUR 1,249 and hotel rooms from EUR 200 a night.
  • Nomad Summit Chiang Mai 2027 runs 15 to 24 January 2027, with a two-day conference, a 48-hour Buildathon and a community-run Nomad Week, and tickets from EUR 299.
  • Hampton runs 10+ retreats a year for its members only, at $3,000 to $5,000 per retreat before airfare, according to its Foundations page.
  • Top Founders Summit London (8 to 10 May 2027, from $997, capped at 100) is hosted by Founderpath, and its event page also asks founders to request revenue financing, so treat it partly as a sales channel.

A founder retreat is worth going to when it puts you in a small, vetted room with founders a little ahead of you, and spends most of its time on peer sessions rather than stage talks. Judge every retreat on five things: who gets in, how many people come, what it costs all-in, what actually happens each day, and whether it's selling you something else. Most of the retreats below pass on some of these and fail on others, so the right one depends on your stage and your budget.

We checked every retreat and trip in this guide on the organiser's own website on 26 October 2026 (Bali time). Where a page didn't publish a price, a size or a vetting rule, we say so rather than filling the gap from an aggregator. Where a page shows a bare $ sign without naming the currency, so do we.

How to judge a founder retreat

Judge a retreat by its vetting first, because the people in the room are the product. Then check size, all-in price, programme and whether there's a funnel behind it.

  • Who attends (vetting). Look for a written rule, not just "curated". Dynamite Circle's requirements page says your business must make at least US$100,000 a year and that it doesn't take freelancers, employees or multi-level marketers. SaaS on the Beach's application asks for your company's ARR and headcount, and says a real person reads every application. A retreat with no rule at all is a holiday with a theme.
  • Size. In a group of a few dozen you can meet everyone. At several hundred you'll need a plan for who to meet. Dynamite Circle's events page says its events "range from intimate 10-person gatherings to 400+ attendee conferences", which is the whole spread in one organiser.
  • Price, all-in. Add flights, rooms, the membership you need to qualify, and the days you're not working. DCBKK 2026's ticket was $998, with airfare and accommodation extra. Hampton's retreats cost $3,000 to $5,000 on top of membership, and that excludes airfare.
  • What actually happens. The best formats are small-group masterminds, hot seats and curated introductions. DCMEX 2027's page describes a mastermind day in groups of 6 to 8 founders sorted by revenue level and industry. Big keynotes are easier to replace with a recording.
  • Whether it's a funnel. Read the event page for anything sold next to the ticket. We've flagged it below only where the organiser's own page shows it.

Founder retreats and trips in the next 12 months

These are the founder retreats and recurring founder trips we could confirm on the organiser's own page as running between now and October 2027. Prices are per person and exclude flights unless the page says otherwise.

Dynamite Circle (DCMEX, DC BLACK and DCBKK)

Dynamite Circle is the most established option for location-independent founders, but every event is behind its membership. Its events page says events are open to current members and approved applicants, and that local meetups and Juntos are typically free.

Membership costs US$697 a year and needs at least US$100,000 a year in revenue, according to its requirements page, which also says it doesn't currently accept some coaching, consulting and recruiting businesses. DC BLACK, the top tier, is US$5,500 a year and needs $1M+ in annual revenue.

DCMEX 2027 expects 200+ founders at the Hilton Mexico City Reforma, with presentations, a mastermind day, workshops and evening parties. DC BLACK Lisbon is much smaller, usually 25 to 35 people, built around hot-seat masterminds, show-and-tells and two group dinners. Neither page publishes a ticket price.

The flagship, DCBKK, ran on 22 to 25 October 2026 for "300+ location-independent, bootstrapped founders", with a $998 ticket that covered programming, masterminds, meals and four parties. Its page calls it members-only and says tickets are released inside the members' forum. The 2027 dates weren't posted when we checked, so it isn't in the table.

MicroConf US and MicroConf Europe

MicroConf is the open-ticket choice for self-funded software founders: you buy a ticket, with no application. The US 2027 page calls it "the longest-running SaaS conference for non-venture track founders" and says it's "intimate (around 250 people at most)". General Admission is US$1,229, and rooms at the Hotel Van Zandt start at $249 a night.

The programme mixes morning talks with curated excursions, founder-led workshops, three receptions and what it calls the "Hallway Track". MicroConf Europe 2027 follows the same shape at Hotel Dubrovnik Palace, with early bird tickets at EUR 1,249 and rooms from EUR 200 a night including breakfast.

It's a conference with retreat habits rather than a retreat, so you'll get more from it if you arrange a few dinners yourself.

Nomad Summit Chiang Mai

Nomad Summit is the cheapest entry in the table and the least filtered. The 2027 page lists a welcome evening on 15 January, a two-day conference on 16 to 17 January, a 48-hour Buildathon with local Thai attendees, then a community-run Nomad Week until 24 January. Tickets start from EUR 299, and the page says anyone with a ticket can host a Nomad Week event.

It's built for founders, freelancers, investors and creators together, so expect a broad room rather than a founder-only one.

Nomad Cruise

Nomad Cruise is a conference at sea for remote workers, not a founder-only trip. The pricing page lists NC18 as a 15-day crossing for 300 people, from Barcelona via Tangier and four Caribbean islands to the Dominican Republic, on 2 to 16 November 2026. Shared-cabin places were EUR 1,900 to EUR 2,600 and single cabins EUR 2,900 to EUR 4,500, including meals, Starlink Wi-Fi and the conference programme. Every cabin was sold out, so the only route in is the waitlist, and the pricing page lists no later sailing.

SaaS on the Beach

SaaS on the Beach is a two-day, application-only event for founders and CEOs of B2B software businesses. It runs in Cancun on 24 to 25 February 2027 and Barcelona on 26 to 27 May 2027. Its application asks for your country, role, company, ARR and headcount. Neither page publishes a price or a group size, so ask before you commit.

Top Founders Summit London

Top Founders Summit London is a three-day event on 8 to 10 May 2027, capped at 100, with a starting price of $997, per its event page. It's hosted by Nathan Latka for "bootstrapped and funded software founders". The page doesn't name a venue or describe vetting for London.

Flying With Founders

Flying With Founders runs a week-long founder retreat in Central America on 5 to 11 January 2027. Its retreat page describes daily workshops on leadership, founder wellness and goal-setting, excursions, group meals, and virtual prep and follow-up calls. Lodging, group meals and in-country transport are included; flights and travel insurance aren't. The page doesn't publish a price or group size, only that you pay a deposit to hold a room.

Hampton (members only)

Hampton runs retreats only for its members, so we've left it out of the table. Its Foundations page says it hosts 10+ retreats a year, each priced at $3,000 to $5,000 for programming, rooms, meals and activities, with airfare extra. It doesn't publish dates.

Which ones are partly a sales funnel

Two of the retreats above sell something else on the same pages as the ticket, and you should go in knowing it.

  • Top Founders Summit. The event page says "Founderpath advances up to $5M against your recurring revenue" and carries buttons to get a funding offer and request capital. The host sells revenue financing, so expect it to come up.
  • MicroConf. Its homepage also promotes MicroConf Connect (a private founder community), masterminds with a waitlist, a SaaS Launchpad course and the TinySeed accelerator. The conference stands on its own, but expect to hear about the rest.

Dynamite Circle's events are a membership benefit rather than an upsell: you buy the membership first, then the ticket. Nomad Summit, Nomad Cruise, SaaS on the Beach and Flying With Founders didn't show another product on the pages we read.

What we dropped and why

We dropped anything we couldn't confirm on the organiser's own page as running in the next 12 months.

  • DCBKK 2027: the 2026 edition just ran, and 2027 dates weren't posted.
  • Create & Cultivate's Seven Figure Founder Retreat: its retreat page returned a 404 when we checked, so we couldn't confirm a 2027 date.
  • Edge City pop-up villages: its homepage lists villages in Goa and Bhutan in late 2026 but no prices, and they're for technology, science and culture broadly, not founders.
  • Network School: its homepage places it in Astana, Kazakhstan, and gives no price or length of stay.
  • Running Remote 2027: we couldn't confirm a 2027 date from the organiser, and it's a conference rather than a retreat.
  • Indie Hackers and Small Bets meetups: we found no organiser-run retreat or trip with dates.
  • YC and Techstars founder retreats: we found no open founder retreat from either; their in-person retreats sit inside their accelerator programmes.
  • EO: its join page doesn't publish eligibility or event access, so we couldn't check it.

Founder-friendly coliving

Coliving suits you better than a retreat if you want weeks of focused work near other remote builders rather than a few days of programme. Before you book, check three things on the operator's own page: the work setup (desks, internet speed, quiet space), how the community is curated, and the minimum stay.

None of the coliving operators below describes a founder-specific programme. They're for remote workers in general, which is why they aren't in the retreat table.

  • Outsite. Membership is $199 a year or $499 for life, and stays run "from 3 nights to 3 months", with some deals needing 7 or 14 nights, according to its homepage. Members get a new-member mixer every month. The page doesn't describe desks, internet speed or any screening.
  • Sun and Co. It's a coliving and coworking house in Jávea, Spain, running since 2015. Its homepage lists private rooms from 40 euro a day and shared rooms from 23 euro a day, while its coworking page shows 49 euro and 26 euro, so confirm the price for your dates. The coworking page lists 500 Mbps internet and weekly mastermind and skillshare sessions. We didn't find a minimum stay or a screening step.
  • Hacker Paradise. It runs month-long group trips for remote workers, with Hoi An on 10 January to 7 February 2027 and Osaka on 23 May to 20 June 2027 listed on its homepage. Its how-it-works page lists Signature trips (room and coworking) from US$1,375 for 3 weeks or US$2,345 for a month, and Program Only from US$790 for 2 weeks. You submit an application and talk to an advisor before you pay, and the page says each trip has a hand-selected community of 12 to 25 people.

If you're choosing a base for a few months, our guide to digital nomad visas for founders covers whether you can legally run your company from there.

Or host your own

Hosting your own founder dinner or weekend is often cheaper than any retreat above, and you choose who's in the room. Book a private room, invite a small group of founders you'd want to learn from, and keep it to one theme. Our guide to starting a founder meetup covers invites, venues and a run sheet.

Remote Builders' builder dinners (ours)

Remote Builders is our own community, so read this section with that in mind. It isn't a retreat. It's free to request an invite, and a person reads every request.

Remote Builders runs builder dinners in Bali and Australia, and opens a city chapter where a member hosts. Members get a member directory with profile pages. A members' chat, a Remote Builders space in the Bali Startup & Tech Telegram, is being set up, peer circles are planned, and the first podcast episodes are in the works. If a regular dinner near you sounds more useful than a flight to a retreat, request an invite.

Looking for a founders retreat in Bali? See Bali Startup & Tech, which runs How I AI builder nights in Canggu (Season 2 starts 4 November 2026).

Common mistakes

The most common mistake is paying for a famous room you're not ready for, or a cheap room that isn't vetted.

  • Ignoring the qualifying cost. A members-only retreat costs the membership plus the ticket. At Dynamite Circle that's US$697 a year before the event.
  • Budgeting only the ticket. Flights, rooms and a week away from customers often cost more than the ticket. DCBKK, Hampton and Flying With Founders all exclude airfare.
  • Picking on speaker names. You can watch talks later. Pick on the size of the mastermind groups and how they're sorted.
  • Missing the funnel. If the event page sells financing, a course or a mastermind, expect a pitch, and decide before you go.
  • Going without a plan. At 200+ people, write down the five founders you want to meet and message them before you fly.
  • Booking coliving as if it were a retreat. Coliving gives you a place to work, not a vetted peer group. Check the minimum stay and the work setup first.
  • Leaving it too late. Every NC18 cabin was sold out when we checked, a week before it sails, and DCBKK tickets are released only inside the members' forum.

Checklist for choosing a founder retreat

  1. Write down what you want from it: peers at your stage, intros to a market, or a reset.
  2. Check the vetting rule on the organiser's own page. "Curated" with no rule isn't vetting.
  3. Check the size, and whether there are small-group sessions sorted by stage or revenue.
  4. Add up the all-in cost: membership, ticket, flights, rooms and days away from work.
  5. Read the day-by-day programme. Count hours of peer sessions against hours of stage talks.
  6. Look for anything sold next to the ticket: financing, courses, masterminds, paid communities.
  7. Confirm the dates and whether the event is sold out or waitlist only.
  8. Ask the organiser for the group size and attendee mix if the page doesn't say.
  9. Plan the five people you want to meet before you go.
  10. Compare the cost with hosting your own dinner or joining a local chapter, and pick the one you'll repeat.

Questions people ask

Are founder retreats worth it?
They're worth it when the room is vetted, the group is small enough to meet everyone, and most of the time goes to peer sessions rather than stage talks. A retreat is a poor buy if anyone with a card can attend, the price leaves out flights and rooms you didn't budget for, or the event mainly sells another product. Judge each one on vetting, size, all-in cost, programme and funnel.
How much does a founder retreat cost?
From about EUR 299 for a conference ticket to $3,000 to $5,000 for a members-only retreat, before flights. MicroConf US 2027 General Admission is US$1,229 and DCBKK 2026 was $998 plus flights and rooms. Members-only retreats also need the membership: Dynamite Circle's is US$697 a year.
Can I go to DCBKK without being a Dynamite Circle member?
No. Dynamite Circle's DCBKK page calls it a members-only event and says tickets are released inside the members' forum. Membership needs at least US$100,000 a year in business revenue. DCBKK 2026 ran 22 to 25 October 2026 and the 2027 dates weren't posted when we checked.
Is there a founders retreat in Bali?
We haven't listed one here, because Bali content lives with Bali Startup & Tech. See balistartupandtech.com for founder events in Bali, including its How I AI builder nights in Canggu, whose Season 2 starts on 4 November 2026.
Are founder retreats just sales funnels?
Some are partly. Check whether the organiser's own page sells something else next to the ticket. Top Founders Summit's page asks you to request financing from its host, Founderpath, and MicroConf's site also promotes a founder community, masterminds and a course. A funnel isn't always bad, but you should know you're in one.
What's the difference between a founder retreat and coliving?
A retreat is a short, programmed event, usually two to seven days, with a fixed group. Coliving is somewhere to live and work for weeks or months, with optional community events and little or no vetting. Outsite, for example, offers stays from 3 nights to 3 months with a yearly membership.
How do I get into an invite-only founder retreat?
Apply through the organiser's form and expect to give your role, company and revenue. SaaS on the Beach's form asks for your company's ARR and headcount and says a real person reads every application. Dynamite Circle wants a founder of a business, not a freelancer or employee, with at least US$100,000 a year in revenue.
